PCC stands for Precipitated Calcium Carbonate, also known as purified or synthetic
calcium carbonate. It has the same chemical formula (CaCO₃) as limestone, marble,
and chalk. The most common crystal form is calcite, while less common forms include
aragonite and vaterite.
How PCC Is Made
Manufactured by direct carbonation of hydrated lime (milk of lime process).
High-purity calcium carbonate rock is mined and crushed.
Rock is calcined in a kiln to form lime (CaO) and CO₂.
CO₂ is captured for reuse.
Lime is hydrated with water to form calcium hydroxide.
